Community Begins at the Library


Advocacy Committee

Advocacy Committee member functions: 

      Attend and speak briefly at city and county commission meetings to highlight the importance of public libraries to the community and thank elected officials for their support

      Meet with new commissioners to explain the role and activities of Friends of the Library

      Meet with state government officials representing Nassau County to communicate the importance of state funding and support to the library

      Address community groups in support of new services and upcoming events such as National Library Week, Black History Month, Library Card Sign Up Month

      Attend meetings of other organizations (Chamber of Commerce, Boys and Girls Club, etc) to promote library services or upcoming events

Time commitment:  Quarterly meetings of the Committee and other participation in committee activities as chosen.
